We are looking for photos that our customers have taken during any of the events we have held, the chaos known as GABF or just on a fun night out with friends. If you have captions please include them, especially dates and names of events or reasons for being here (a fun night out with friends and a good beer is a totally awesome reason for visiting Falling Rock). We will be creating new photo albums on the website and on Facebook. All pictures are subject to the owners deciding to not use them.
If you have any pictures taken at the Falling Rock, and are willing to share them, please email them to beth@frth.com
All pictures are subject to review by the owners of FRTH and may not be used based on their own reasoning. I stopped questioning it when it interfered with drinking the awesomeness on tap.
Hey folks, don’t forget we will close at 6pm on Saturday, December 24 and will reopen at 11am on Monday, December 26. Have a safe and Merry Christmas!
Join us at Sundown on Tuesday, December 20th for the beginning of Chanukah and the tapping of Jewbelation 15 from Schmaltz Brewing.
As Schmaltz Brewing says,
CELEBRATING 15 YEARS OF DELICIOUS
BEER & DELICIOUS SHTICK…L’Chaim!
A while back the owners of Falling Rock, The Brothers Black, decided to celebrate the stellar job their staff did during this years GABF. What better way to celebrate than to take everyone to Euclid Hall for food, fun and plenty of drinks? Perhaps opening a 9-liter bottle of Russian River Temptation to be shared amongst our staff and those at Euclid Hall, along with 5lbs of Humboldt Fog, an amazing goat cheese that Natalie Cilurzo of Russian River swears by as a pairing to Temptation… Then we came across this article about the event, and picture of Chris with the giant bottle. One of these days, when I make room on a shelf for it, you’ll be able to walk into the bar and see it graced with our signatures. Here’s to 15 years of GABF at the Falling Rock and the staff who make it possible!!

It’s Beginning to Taste a Lot Like Christmas around here, or winter, or just darn tasty if you please!! We are now pouring an amazing 25+ Holiday Beers on the wall!! Not to mention the 5+ waiting in the cooler. So to make things a bit easier on us all, here’s the current list of beers on tap and in bottles. Some are this years edition, but there are several amazing Vintage beers Chris has been carefully aging. Just remember, these beers are high in ABV, limited edition and and thus subject to change on a moments notice. Don’t worry, there will always be another beer worthy of your attention!

So we updated our website this past summer & the next improvement in communication with you our customers is we have (finally) joined the current Decade & gone Facebook & Twitter on you. You can Friend us at www.facebook.com/FallingRockTap and Follow us on Twitter @FallingRockTap. We’ll be posting regular updates of what just tapped, who’s playing on the big screen and pics of the fantastic tap wall as it gets updated (by ‘we’ I, of course, mean mostly Beth our Cellar Monkey & Website Wench) but she says that it’s so easy even ‘I’ can do it.
By Wednesday, Nov. 30th we will start tapping into the Vintage Christmas Beers, many are 5 Gal Kegs (the Belgians) so I don’t expect them to hang out for long. Last year we had about 20 different ones, this year looks like a few more, we’ll be posting them on the website & the aforementioned Facebook & Twitter.
Have Fun,
Chris
We will be closed for Thanksgiving, 11/24/2011. Have a Happy Thanksgiving, we’ll see you at 11am Friday morning (normal hours)!
Its Beginning To Taste A Lot Like
Christmas…
The Christmas Beers are beginning to make their way onto the tap wall, so come down and check them out! The only way to taste all of the ones we will tap this year is to start now and check back often!!
Mark your calenders now!! On Tuesday November 29th 5-7pm David Walker of Firestone Walker will be here sharing special tasty treats. If you missed the Anniversary Ale come try some of the component beers, Bravo Imperial Brown ale, Double Jack, and Denver’s newest addition, the gold medal winner for American Pale ale, Pale 31 on cask! Then hang out for the Christmas Beer Dinner downstairs, starting at 7pm. If you need the info, here goes:
Tuesday, November 29th 7pm. 14th Annual Christmas Beer Dinner. Chef Cheryl is already brainstorming over this year’s deliciousness to be paired with the current & past crops of Holiday Beers. We will have a 4-5 course meal paired with around 10 different Holiday Beers from this & past Vintages. This will be the first opportunity to sample the past vintages as most of them we only have one keg (most in a 5 gal size) of the past vintages. Tix on Sale at 11:11 on 11/11/11 $55 per person if purchased by Sunday November 27th at 7pm. $60 after that, if still available. Given the rate of sales in the last two years, we suggest you come in now to pick them up, and have a tasty Christmas beer while you do so!
This Friday November 18th @ 5pm we will be Celebrating Firestone Walker's 15th Anniversary with a tapping of a keg of XV, the 6th installment in their Anniversary Beer Series: (From their press release) Since founding our brewery in 1996, we have specialized in the rare art of brewing beer in oak barrels. In the fall of 2006, we released a limited edition oak-aged strong ale called 10 to commemorate our 10th anniversary. The experience was greater than any one of us could have ever imagined. We now present XV, our sixth release in what has become an annual autumn rite at our brewery. The Vision Behind Our Barrel Aging and Blending Program Remains! The Goal: To create complexity centering on oak, in a multitude of forms, by brewing high gravity beers in complementary styles, aging them in different barrel formats and then blending them together to achieve harmonious new flavors. The Puzzle: To blend these various components (or lots) to create a synergistic whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. This is achieved with the help of a few of our neighboring Paso Robles winemakers who are practicing experts in the art of blending. The Inspiration: Firestone Walkers oak brewing tradition and our connection with winemaking. Of course until the advent of stainless steel, brewing was intimately linked to wood barrels and vessels. Brewing has a deeply rooted history in the alchemy of blending. The Barrels The individual lots were aged in oak barrels, many of which were hand selected from premium Kentucky spirits producers by Tom Griffin, who is extremely passionate and knowledgeable about bourbon barrels and beer. Each barrel lends its own unique influence to the final blend. The Aging Cellar The Components We blended together 197 oak barrels and 8 different beers creating something truly complex and exceptional. Following are descriptions of key components with their original code names: Final Blend % Helldorado (11.7% ABV) Aged in Bourbon Barrels and Brandy Barrels -Blonde Barley Wine OG=24.7P FG=4.5P IBU=24 Color=8 / Brewed with buckwheat honey & 100% El Dorado hops Sticky Monkey (12.5% ABV) Aged in Bourbon and Brandy Barrels -English Barley Wine OG=27P FG=5.4P IBU=45 Color=28 / Brewed with Mexican Turbinado (Brown) sugar Bravo (13.5% ABV) Aged in Bourbon and Brandy Barrels -Imperial Brown Ale OG=26.5P FG=7.7P IBU=35 Color=32 / Hopped with 100% US grown Fuggles Double Double Barrel Ale (11.5% ABV) Aged 100% in retired Firestone Union Barrels-Double Strength English Pale Ale OG=25.0P FG=5.1P IBU=30 Color=16 / A Double version of our flagship created by Ali Razi Good Foot (14.3% ABV) Aged in Bourbon Barrels -American Barley Wine OG=27.5P FG=5.4P IBU=80 Color=26 Brewed with copious amounts of American grown hops Velvet Merkin (8.6% ABV) Aged in Bourbon barrels -Traditional Oatmeal Stout OG=15P FG=5.5 IBU=32.5 Color=Black 15% Oats / Hopped with 100% US grown Fuggles Parabola (13% ABV) - Aged in Bourbon Barrels -Russian Imperial Oatmeal Stout OG=31P FG=8.5P IBU=80 Color=Black Hopped with Simcoe, Bravo, Styrian Golding and East Kent Golding Double Jack (9.5% ABV) 100% Fresh-n-Hoppy 100% Stainless Steel -Double India Pale Ale OG=20P FG=3.0P IBU=100 Color=8 Extremely hoppy triple dry hopped DIPA Tuesday November 29th @ 5pm Firestone Walker Special Releases w/ David Walker. Last year it was a new record: 9 minutes 53 seconds. I’ll look to better that time this Year, One Man, One Keg & a bunch of glasses… After the first keg goes well tap into some more at a more leisurely pace. 11pm (Upstairs) Alaskan Brewing 25th Anniversary Celebration. We’ll have kegs of their 25th anniversary Imperial Stout is brewed with an array of local ingredients and flavors to add dimension and celebrate Alaskan’s history and home. Alaska birch syrup from Wasilla lends a deep, almost tart character to the dark malt profile, while fireweed honey from Delta Junction adds a delicate sweetness and floral notes to the aroma and finish. The slight addition of our in-house alder-smoked malt alludes to the distinctive roasted flavor of turn-of-the-century malting practices, without overpowering the more subtle flavors of this dynamic anniversary brew.

Each of us made our own blend of La Folie. We will release the three versions (appropriately they will be called 1, 2, & 3) and give time for all to sample. After people have had the time to taste them I will ask for applause as a vote on your favorite. Only then will we open the envelope and disclose the Blenders. This should be interesting. I’ll also pull out a couple things from my stash of New Belgium Beers.
All of the kegs are in & We’re ready to GO

The next year it was 20 minutes or so, the next 15, then 12minutes. Last year it was a new record: 9 minutes 53 seconds. Ill look to better that time this Year, One Man, One Keg & a bunch of glasses After the first keg goes well tap into some more at a more leisurely pace. At 12:30 well release the Sierra Nevada Estate Homegrown Ale (the same style of beer made with Malt and hops grown on the property). 2pm Avery Brewing Try some of the Avery rarities on tap including aged kegs of Beast, Samaels and whatever Adam and Breese will let out of the brewery 3pm Rogue Brewing Well tap into Double Chocolate Stout & John John Hazelnut, Just in case youre interested. 10pm Dog(fish Head) Treats Ive been saving a few of Sam (& Crews) special releases including a World Wide Stout (I think its a little over a year old) . 11pm (Upstairs) Alaskan Brewing 25th Anniversary Celebration. Well have kegs of their 25th anniversary Imperial Stout is brewed with an array of local ingredients and flavors to add dimension and celebrate Alaskans history and home. 11pm (Downstairs) HeBrew Celebration - Well have JewBelation 15, 15:15, & HopManna Saturday October 1st 8pm Firestone Walker - A new Arrival to the Colorado Market, Join Head Brewer Matt Bryndelson & others for some special kegs (and a cask) of Firestone Walkers amazing beers. 10pm New Belgium When the GABF is over, we tap into special releases of New Belgiums Beers. This year I went to the brewery & did a blending session with Lauren Salazar, & Eric Salazar. Ill also pull out a couple things from my stash of New Belgium Beers. I still have one or two more events thyat should be nailed down by mid next week, I'll re-post the updated list that will also include a few more specifics (as in I need to allow for the distributors to finish up w/ the registrations before announcing them) but more is to come. Also, if you haven't noticed we have a new updated website that includes some of that Facebook/Twitter stuff. we've been trying to post new beers on tap as we hook things up during the week. we are going to really try to keep that stuff going during the Fest, so it just might behoove you to sign up for that kind of stuff ahead of time because it might be one of the ways if you aren't sitting w/in sight of the chalkboard that you will know what's just been tapped... I'm tired of typing, I think I'll have a Beer Chris
After picking fresh Chinook hops at the Hippy Chicks Hop Farm on the outskirts of Downtown Palisade, CO on the morning of September 1, Chris and the Odell crew headed up to Ft. Collins to brew the beer. This video is of them punching down the 42 lbs of wet (fresh) hops in the mash tun. “We were using the mash tun as a giant hop-back. The aroma of all of the fresh hops was amazing!” said the king.
