Sammy Mayfield Heating Up The Rock

Sammy heating up the Rock during the Nathaniel Wright benefit show.

OK So here We Go…
the Kegs are arriving so Here’s the Schedule…
We will be tapping Pliny the Younger on Sunday, February 12th @1PM
Second Keg on Saturday February 18th @ 1pm
Last Keg on Saturday February 25th @5pm
We will open (as usual) at 11am each day. Tickets will be issued as people arrive that will allow you to purchase a beer,
this method seemed to de-stress the event last year so we’re going with that again.

We are looking for photos that our customers have taken during any of the events we have held, the chaos known as GABF or just on a fun night out with friends. If you have captions please include them, especially dates and names of events or reasons for being here (a fun night out with friends and a good beer is a totally awesome reason for visiting Falling Rock). We will be creating new photo albums on the website and on Facebook. All pictures are subject to the owners deciding to not use them.

If you have any pictures taken at the Falling Rock, and are willing to share them, please email them to beth@frth.com

All pictures are subject to review by the owners of FRTH and may not be used based on their own reasoning. I stopped questioning it when it interfered with drinking the awesomeness on tap.

Don’t forget our NO COVER Champagne Toast at midnight tonight!! We will be closing at 2am on January 1 and will reopen at 11am on TUESDAY, JANUARY 3, 2012. During this time off most of the staff are going to rest a bit and a few of us are going to do a few improvements to the bar. Come join us soon in the New Year and see if you can spot the differences!!

Please have a safe and Happy New Year! There are plenty of cabs and services to help you and yours get home safely, please use them!!

Taste of Winter

It’s Beginning to Taste a Lot Like Christmas around here, or winter, or just darn tasty if you please!! We are now pouring an amazing 25+ Holiday Beers on the wall!! Not to mention the 5+ waiting in the cooler.  So to make things a bit easier on us all, here’s the current list of beers on tap and in bottles. Some are this years edition, but there are several amazing Vintage beers Chris has been carefully aging. Just remember, these beers are high in ABV, limited edition and and thus subject to change on a moments notice. Don’t worry, there will always be another beer worthy of your attention!

Couple of things :

Tuesday Nov. 29th

5pm Firestone XV components with David Walker. Come taste some of the components that went into their Anniversary Beer XV. We’ll have Double Jack, a 9.5% Double India Pale Ale & a Special 5 gallon keg of Bravo, a 13.5% Imperial Brown Ale Aged in Bourbon & Brandy Barrels. Also we’ll have a Cask of Pale 31 going.

So we updated our website this past summer & the next improvement in communication with you our customers is we have (finally) joined the current Decade & gone Facebook & Twitter on you. You can Friend us at www.facebook.com/FallingRockTap and Follow us on Twitter @FallingRockTap. We’ll be posting regular updates of what just tapped, who’s playing on the big screen and pics of the fantastic tap wall as it gets updated (by ‘we’ I, of course, mean mostly Beth our Cellar Monkey & Website Wench) but she says that it’s so easy even ‘I’ can do it.

By Wednesday, Nov. 30th we will start tapping into the Vintage Christmas Beers, many are 5 Gal Kegs (the Belgians) so I don’t expect them to hang out for long. Last year we had about 20 different ones, this year looks like a few more, we’ll be posting them on the website & the aforementioned Facebook & Twitter.

Have Fun,

Chris

We just hooked up St. Feuillien Speciale, St. Bernardus Christmas Ale, Delerium Noel, Anchor Our Special Christmas and Bristol Christmas Ale. So come on down and have a beer (or two, or three…)

Its Beginning To Taste A Lot Like
Christmas…

The Christmas Beers are beginning to make their way onto the tap wall, so come down and check them out! The only way to taste all of the ones we will tap this year is to start now and check back often!!

Friday September 30th

NOON Sierra Nevada Harvest Release (Kill-A-Keg) – Our Annual insanity of releasing Sierra Nevadas Harvest Ale (made with wet, Fresh-from-the-Fields Hops) & seeing how fast we can pour a keg of beer. A few years back we noticed that we were pouring a keg pretty quick (like a 15.5 gal keg in about a half Hour) & we wondered, ‘just how fast CAN you pour a keg?’ The next year it was 20 minutes or so, the next 15, then 12minutes. Last year it was a new record: 9 minutes 53 seconds. Ill look to better that time this Year, One Man, One Keg & a bunch of glasses… After the first keg goes well tap into some more at a more leisurely pace. At 12:30 well release the Sierra Nevada Estate Homegrown Ale (the same style of beer made with Malt and hops grown on the property).

11pm (Upstairs) Alaskan Brewing 25th Anniversary Celebration. Well have kegs of their 25th anniversary Imperial Stout is brewed with an array of local ingredients and flavors to add dimension and celebrate Alaskans history and home. Alaska birch syrup from Wasilla lends a deep, almost tart character to the dark malt profile, while fireweed honey from Delta Junction adds a delicate sweetness and floral notes to the aroma and finish. The slight addition of our in-house alder-smoked malt alludes to the distinctive roasted flavor of turn-of-the-century malting practices, without overpowering the more subtle flavors of this dynamic anniversary brew.

11pm (Downstairs) He’Brew Celebration - Well have JewBelation 15, 15:15, & HopManna

Saturday October 1st

8pm Firestone Walker - A new Arrival to the Colorado Market, Join Head Brewer Matt Bryndelson & others for some special kegs (and a cask) of Firestone Walkers amazing beers.

10pm New Belgium – When the GABF is over, we tap into special releases of New Belgiums Beers. This year I went to the brewery & did a blending session with Lauren Salazar, & Eric Salazar. Each of us made our own blend of La Folie. We will release the three versions (appropriately they will be called 1, 2, & 3) and give time for all to sample. After people have had the time to taste them I will ask for applause as a vote on your favorite. Only then will we open the envelope and disclose the Blenders. This should be interesting. Ill also pull out a couple things from my stash of New Belgium Beers.

I still have one or two more events that should be nailed down by mid next week, I’ll re-post the updated list that will also include a few more specifics (as in I need to allow for the distributors to finish up w/ the registrations before announcing them) but more is to come.

Also, if you haven’t noticed we have a new updated website that includes some of that Facebook/Twitter stuff. We’ve been trying to post new beers on tap as we hook things up during the week. we are going to really try to keep that stuff going during the Fest, so it just might behoove you to sign up for that kind of stuff ahead of time because it might be one of the ways if you aren’t sitting w/in sight of the chalkboard that you will know what’s just been tapped…

After picking fresh Chinook hops at the Hippy Chicks Hop Farm on the outskirts of Downtown Palisade, CO on the morning of September 1, Chris and the Odell crew headed up to Ft. Collins to brew the beer. This video is of them punching down the 42 lbs of wet (fresh) hops in the mash tun. “We were using the mash tun as a giant hop-back. The aroma of all of the fresh hops was amazing!” said the king.

Chris spent the First of September in Palisades, CO and Ft. Collins, CO picking hops and brewing a Fresh Hop beer with the folks at Odell. He took this video of the boil shortly after adding the fresh Chinook hops they picked in the morning.

In August Chris spent an afternoon at New Belgium Brewing in Fort Collins with Lauren Salazar and Eric Salazar. Using the contents of the 16 wooden foeters blending their own versions of La Folie, NB’s trademark sour brown ale. On Friday, Oct. 1 at 10 pm all three versions (Chris’, Lauren’s and Eric’s) will be available for a blind mass tasting.

Friday August 12th 5pm. New Belgium Lips of Faith Release Party
New Belgium's Next Lips of Faith Beers, KicK & Clutch will Be available on
draught & some of the brewers will be in house to kick them off.

Kick is a Collaborative effort between Kim Jordan (head Honcho at New Belgium &
the KI in KICK) & Dick Cantwell (head Brewer at Elysian Brewing in Seattle & the
CK of KICK) a ruby-hued, slightly sour ale. The rich and tart pumpkin cranberry
ale is blended with wood-aged beer to deliver a uniquely complex harvest season
sour. Kick’s ABV is 8.5%.

Clutch is a Collaborative beer made between the brewers at New Belgium & the
band Clutch. “"Clutch is one of my favorite bands and this collaboration derives
from the perfect storm of random happenings,"” said New Belgium brewer Eric
Salazar. “"The band made a stop in Ft. Collins to tour our brewery, but we were
closed. That day, I happened to run into them at a Ft. Collins restaurant and we
started talking. I offered them a tour and the next thing you know, we’ve
produced a soulful beer together.” The beer is a Sour Stout. "The sour stout has a
pronounced bass line of dark chocolate, coffee and black malts that bridge the
sourness of the dark wood ale for a fluid riff. Clutch’s ABV is 9%."

What is better on a Friday night in August than sitting on a great patio
with great beers and great brewers?? Hope to see you here!
