Pliny the Younger Tapping on February 12, 2012. Chris is getting the crowd ready for some Younger!
1pm: Pliny the Younger Tapping!! We will open at 11 am, as usual, and will pass out tickets to ensure you get your glass of Younger. This controls the chaos and makes it a far more enjoyable release for you since you won’t have to maintain your place in a line (possibly in the cold, in the snow, on the ice…) and can sit and enjoy yourself. We’ve done this a few times (really? just a few?) and have learned from our experiences. Its a sign of intelligence, the ability to learn from ones past efforts.
4pm: Nathaniel Wright Memorial Benefit. Nathaniel was a member of Sammy Mayfield’s blues band for several years and an amazing musician. He passed away recently and we are hosting a LIVE Blues show featuring Sammy and friends to benefit Nathaniel’s family. A $15 BBQ buffet will be offered with all proceeds going to the family, and Sammy will be playing on the stage. This is a one-of-a-kind show for an excellent cause. We hope to see you!!
Have fun with us, come for the Younger and stay for the Blues!!
On Sunday, February 12 from 4pm to 7pm we will have a live Blues jam session featuring Sammy Mayfield and friends.
From KUVO Jazz 89 radio’s website: “One of the most solid bass players ever.”
Bassist Nathaniel Wright of Denver, a member of Sam Mayfield’s Blues Band for over forty years, has passed. There will be a Memorial Benefit for Nathaniel this Sunday, February 12 from 4 to 7pm at Falling Rock Tap House, 1919 Blake Street.
All Musicians are welcome; come and celebrate Nathaniel’s life and music. A BBQ buffet downstairs in the Cigar Room will be $15 with all proceeds going to Nathaniel’s family. Donations will also be accepted.
We are looking for photos that our customers have taken during any of the events we have held, the chaos known as GABF or just on a fun night out with friends. If you have captions please include them, especially dates and names of events or reasons for being here (a fun night out with friends and a good beer is a totally awesome reason for visiting Falling Rock). We will be creating new photo albums on the website and on Facebook. All pictures are subject to the owners deciding to not use them.
If you have any pictures taken at the Falling Rock, and are willing to share them, please email them to beth@frth.com
All pictures are subject to review by the owners of FRTH and may not be used based on their own reasoning. I stopped questioning it when it interfered with drinking the awesomeness on tap.
Don’t forget our NO COVER Champagne Toast at midnight tonight!! We will be closing at 2am on January 1 and will reopen at 11am on TUESDAY, JANUARY 3, 2012. During this time off most of the staff are going to rest a bit and a few of us are going to do a few improvements to the bar. Come join us soon in the New Year and see if you can spot the differences!!
Please have a safe and Happy New Year! There are plenty of cabs and services to help you and yours get home safely, please use them!!
Join us on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 9pm MST for the Coast to Coast Toast. Vanberg and DeWulf Importers are celebrating their 30th Anniversary of bringing excelent Belgian beers to the US. Falling Rock is joining in the celebration by tapping two of their imports for the toast: Scaldis Noel and Avec Les Bons Voeux.
From the event website http://coasttocoasttoast.eventbrite.com/:
“On November 15, 2011, the best Belgophile bars, restaurants, and stores across the nation will be raising a glass to celebrate Vanberg & DeWulf’s 30 years of importing Belgian beers to American shores. We could not have hit the big 3-0, however, without the help and support of beer patrons like you. We’re ready to party – are you?
Glass-raising Individuals, make sure to:
- Follow us on Twitter and Facebook for the latest news and updates.
- Check in to Untappd between November 15, 2011 and December 15, 2011 to unlock the Belgian Badge and be entered into a drawing to win a trip for two to Belgium, sponsored by the Belgian Tourist Office and Delta Airlines. Read more on the Untappd blog: http://untpd.it/belgianholiday”

Friday September 30th
NOON Sierra Nevada Harvest Release (Kill-A-Keg) Our Annual insanity of releasing Sierra Nevada’s Harvest Ale (made with wet, Fresh-from-the-Fields Hops) & seeing how fast we can pour a keg of beer. A few years back we noticed that we were pouring a keg pretty quick (like a 15.5 gal keg in about a half Hour) & we wondered, just how fast CAN you pour a keg? The next year it was 20 minutes or so, the next 15, then 12minutes. Last year it was a new record: 9 minutes 53 seconds. I’ll look to better that time this Year, One Man, One Keg & a bunch of glasses After the first keg goes well tap into some more at a more leisurely pace. At 12:30 we’ll release the Sierra Nevada Estate Homegrown Ale (the same style of beer made with Malt and hops grown on the property).
2pm Avery Brewing Try some of the Avery rarities on tap including aged kegs of Beast, Samaels and whatever Adam and Breese will let out of the brewery
3pm Rogue Brewing We’ll tap into Double Chocolate Stout & John John Hazelnut, Just in case you’re interested.
10pm Dog(fish Head) Treats I’ve been saving a few of Sam (& Crew’s) special releases including a World Wide Stout (I think it’s a little over a year old) .
11pm (Upstairs) Alaskan Brewing 25th Anniversary Celebration. We’ll have kegs of their 25th anniversary Imperial Stout is brewed with an array of local ingredients and flavors to add dimension and celebrate Alaskan’s history and home. Alaska birch syrup from Wasilla lends a deep, almost tart character to the dark malt profile, while fireweed honey from Delta Junction adds a delicate sweetness and floral notes to the aroma and finish. The slight addition of our in-house alder-smoked malt alludes to the distinctive roasted flavor of turn-of-the-century malting practices, without overpowering the more subtle flavors of this dynamic anniversary brew.
11pm (Downstairs) HeBrew Celebration - We’ll have JewBelation 15, 15:15, & HopManna
Saturday October 1st
8pm Firestone Walker - A new Arrival to the Colorado Market, Join Head Brewer Matt Bryndelson & others for some special kegs (and a cask) of Firestone Walkers amazing beers.
10pm New Belgium When the GABF is over, we tap into special releases of New Belgium’s Beers. This year I went to the brewery & did a blending session with Lauren Salazar, & Eric Salazar. Each of us made our own blend of La Folie. We will release the three versions (appropriately they will be called 1, 2, & 3) and give time for all to sample. After people have had the time to taste them I will ask for applause as a vote on your favorite. Only then will we open the envelope and disclose the Blenders. This should be interesting. I’ll also pull out a couple things from my stash of New Belgium Beers.
I still have one or two more events that should be nailed down by mid next week, I’ll re-post the updated list that will also include a few more specifics (as in I need to allow for the distributors to finish up w/ the registrations before announcing them) but more is to come.
Also, if you haven’t noticed we have a new updated website that includes some of that Facebook/Twitter stuff. We’ve been trying to post new beers on tap as we hook things up during the week. we are going to really try to keep that stuff going during the Fest, so it just might behoove you to sign up for that kind of stuff ahead of time because it might be one of the ways if you aren’t sitting w/in sight of the chalkboard that you will know what’s just been tapped…
I’m tired of typing,
I think I’ll have a Beer
